We were certainly blessed last week during our monthly loadout. Our volunteers showed up early and eager to work. Happy faces and bright smiles combined with servant hearts and willing hands to place food into every conceivable kind and size vehicle to carry out the mission of Midwest Food Bank in getting food and provision into the hands of those in need. We were served unbelievable food by a dedicated group of "Lunch Ladies" who continue to out-do themselves. Perhaps equally memorable was the fact that EVERY single day brought us sunny days and cheery blue sky overhead... what a change and what a relief! Ultimately, problems were resolved, prayers were offered, hugs exchanged and food sent to the needy. That is exactly what Midwest Food Bank is all about. Thank you to all who took part in caring for those in need. Come join us next month and share in the blessing!

Cooler In Indy

Eli Lilly and Company donated a 600 square foot walk-in cooler to the Indianapolis MFB, but that is only half of the story of God’s provision. The blessing of the cooler to the hungry and needy is immense because now Indy MFB can store two semi-loads of perishables, eliminating the need for trucks with cooling units and reducing diesel fuel costs.

Food suppliers donate weekly loads of yogurt, milk, eggs and cheese, and it is so much more efficient and easy to distribute these perishable food items from the cooler than from the back-end of semi trailer.

Eli Lilly’s gift started a cascade of successive donations. Donors contributed funds and contractors donated materials or offered discounts on the cooler installation. In fact, the cooler was used in the Indy March Distribution. The new cooler was and will continue to be an enormous blessing in deed.

Indy MFB Provides Haiti Emergency Relief

On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti resulting in an estimated 250,000 people killed and 1,000,000 people rendered homeless. The ability to obtain life giving water and food was severely restricted as the government and infrastructure of this already desperately poor country fell with the shock and after shocks of the earthquake.

Midwest Food Bank, in its continuing effort to display the love of Jesus Christ, responded to the needs of the thirsty and hungry. All three divisions of the Midwest Food Bank responded by sending medical supplies and food. The Indianapolis MFB sent about 120,000 pounds of food and supplies on three different sea containers in January and February. One container went to Kings Hospital in Port-au-Prince and two to Double Harvest located about 12 miles outside Port-au-Prince.

Just as God sees the needs of all people and He has compassion upon those suffering, God uses the donors and staff of the Midwest Food Bank to fulfill His will in serving others and meeting the needs of the hungry and needy. We continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

Spring has finally arrived in central Illinois. The birds are singing a different song, the winds have changed and the first robin has shown himself. All of God's creation have decided to embrace the new season as shown by all those lovely chickens who reside at The Barnyard Dancers farm in rural McLean county. They really made their owner proud... producing well over 32 dozen eggs this week alone. And so it was that all those perfect orbs of protein, produced locally made their way here as precious cargo to MFB Bloomington. They are a sight to behold. And with grateful hearts we received this wonderful gift from The Barnyard Dancers "mama". Her thoughtfulness and the work of those cute feathered critters will certainly go a long way in helping families in need. They have our gratitude. Thanks girls...

Bloomington warehouse was ablaze with orange thanks to Hinkle Produce of Cissna Park who donated two semi loads of pumpkins to MFB. Their timing was great as most of the pumpkins were given out during distribution week (Oct. 5-9.) One of our faithful volunteers, Chuck Whitacre, made it possible for the children of Carlock and Hudson Elementary Schools to each have a pumpkin. He also distributed to the Minonk Library so children could have fun carving and painting the pumpkins. The Bloomington warehouse was ablaze with orange thanks to Hinkle Produce of Cissna Park who donated two semi loads of pumpkins to MFB.
