The Garden of Hope at the Indianapolis division of the Midwest Food Bank was dedicated on May 15, 2009. The Chin Evangelical Baptist Church became a participating agency of the Indianapolis division of the Midwest Food Bank in March 2009. The church's members are Christian refugees from Myanmar, also known as Burma. Approximately 3500 Chin are in the Indianapolis area. Shortly after becoming a participating agency and overwhelmed with the kindness of others, the Chin offered to plant and tend a garden and share its produce with the almost 200 agencies who are participants in the Indianapolis division of the Midwest Food Bank. They have planted over 50 rows 100 feet long of various vegetables. Although many of the plants were donated to the project, the Chin also provided seeds from their homeland for produce they cannot get here. Many in the community have been touched by their graciious spirit of giving, and have also donated equipment, signage, plants, and time to this project. It is truly an example of Christ's command for His children to love one another as He has loved us. Indianapolis TV Channel 6 recently ran a story on the Chin's garden gift to help feed those in hunger, which can be seen at http://www.theindychannel.com/print/19659375/detail.html
