Midwest Food Bank Aids Victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines

Many have asked if Midwest Food Bank is supporting the Philippines and now we can say "YES"!! God's providence has opened a door!

Midwest Food Bank with five divisions located in Bloomington, Morton and Peoria Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana and Peachtree City, Georgia announced today that they are jointly engaged with relief efforts in the Philippines. In response to a call from Kids International Ministries requesting help in the wake of this terrible disaster, Midwest Food Bank will be loading the first of several containers to be shipped to the Philippines this week at its Indianapolis location. 

The shipments will originate from the Morton Midwest Food Bank Packaging Facility. Each shipment will consist of 45, 000 pounds of rice, pinto beans and Midwest Food Bank’s “Tender Mercies” nutritional rice and bean meal packets which will be shipped to the city of Cebu in the Philippines on Friday, November 22, 2013.

We are requesting those who wish to help in this endeavor to pray and consider sending a donation to support ongoing efforts on behalf of the people in the Philippines.

As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to help alleviate hunger and poverty by gathering and distributing food donations to non-profit agencies and disaster sites without cost to the recipients. Midwest Food Bank is serving over 735 agencies through their five divisions. In addition to serving these agencies who assist hundreds of thousands of needy individuals in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia, Midwest Food Bank responds to disasters such as most recently the Oklahoma tornadoes and the Haiti earthquake.

Midwest Food Bank has been recognized as a “Four Star” charity by Charity Navigatorwww.charitynavigator.org, ranking in the top ten high performing charities based upon excelling in three areas: 1) financial 2) accountability and transparency and 3) results.

Individuals can donate on the Midwest Food Bank website. Clicking the “Donate Now” button on the home page and following the instructions for designating to the Philippines or by sending a check to any Midwest Food Bank location.  Please make designation to “Philippine relief”.

Donations for Disaster Relief will help offset the cost of the product and transportation.
