It's hard to adequately thank the generosity of a couple recent donations to Midwest Food Bank Peoria. So, simply put, MFB thanks Bob Gilmore and the Gilmore Foundation and CEFCU.

Bob Gilmore and the Gilmore Foundation donated $1 million to five local non-profit organizations to celebrate Bob's 100th birthday. MFB Peoria received $325,000. That donation will be used to purchase a refrigerated trailer and a refrigeration unit for an existing box truck. This equipment will help Midwest Food Bank procure and transport perishable food items. Also, fresh produce and meat will be purchased.

"MFB will partner with local farmers to increase the amount of fruits, vegetables and high quality meats that are distributed to food pantries and feeding programs in Central Illinois," says Monica Scheuer, executive director. "This gift will have a major impact on the people they serve."

Bob is a life-long Peorian and is a World War II veteran. He was the President and CEO of Caterpillar from 1977-85 and had a long career there. Happy birthday to Bob! Thank you for including us in your celebration.

CEFCU is another Peoria institution with a legacy of giving and helping. A $45,000 donation from CEFCU will be used for general operations related to providing additional food due to COVID-19. CEFCU, started in 1937 for Caterpillar employees, has been responsive to community needs throughout the years. This donation is another example of that spirit of lending a hand.

Again, thank you to Bob Gilmore and CEFCU. Your support of the work of MFB Peoria is appreciated. We are humbled that you trust us to use your financial donations to help people in the Peoria area.

A generous donation of fresh lettuce, squash, and beans.
