It seems unlikely that a church based in North Carolina would have something to do with a Kapu Africa (Midwest Food Bank East Africa) volunteer event. Yet it happened during Elevation Church's outreach, "Love Week."
Elevation Church in Matthews, NC, Has members who watch services from around the world. Their "Love Week" is a concerted effort of volunteering to share the love of Christ. Upon learning about Kapu Africa, John Nichols, Elevation Outreach Director, contacted MFB to see if we could arrange a volunteer event for their members in Nairobi, Kenya.
John worked out the details with Christine Mutsoli, Executive Director of Kapu Africa. A food distribution in Kibera, a large slum in Nairobi, was planned for July 31, 2021.
Early in the morning, 14 volunteers from Kenya who watch Elevation Church online were in Kibera to bless others. Packs of Tender Mercies, MFB's prepackaged nutritious meals, were distributed.
"The volunteers from Elevation were vibrant and willing," says Christine. "They shared the love of Christ to many people who otherwise would go hungry."
At the end of the distribution, over 1,800 meals were given away. Many of these were to women getting food for their families. The event was a reminder that what we do for the least of these, we do for Christ (Matthew 25:35-40).
The volunteer team was richly blessed, too. For many of them, this was the first time they were meeting other online members of Elevation Church. They were connecting with each other as they served together. They shared how they became Elevation Church members and how the ministry has helped them to grow as believers.
Kapu Africa extends our sincere thanks to John and the team from Elevation Church. Many volunteers expressed an interest in volunteering again. To that, we say, "Karibu Tena," which means "Welcome again" in Swahili.
