28,000 meals in one morning

 225 volunteers, 2.5 hours, 7,000 meal packets!

That is what Midwest Food Bank, Resonate Church, and many volunteers accomplished on March 3. The math is even more powerful when you consider that each packet feeds four people - that's 28,000 meals.

The Morton location of MFB is working with groups in central Illinois to organize and host events that allow volunteers to hand measure and pack the rice and beans meals and in turn feed people in our area.

These meal packets - rice, pre-cooked pinto beans, soy protein and fortified chicken seasoning - are high in nutrition and low in cost. Each packet feeds four people.

Throughout 2018 the Morton location will be working with groups to plan and execute more hand packing events. Interested groups need to provide the site, tables, sponsorship for the meals packed and help secure volunteers. Contact the Morton location at 309-291-0900 for more information about hosting a meal packing event.
