MFB Indiana participates in The Christmas Experience

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, MFB Indiana participated in "The Christmas Experience" at the Marion County Fairgrounds. Parents of over 260 families were invited to attend and shop from a free store of toys to give their children for Christmas.

It didn't end with toys. There was gift wrapping and a pair of shoes available for each child. Groceries were provided for each family, and parents could connect with six different resources on-site.

While the parents "shopped," Children had activities of their own. They played games, made Christmas ornaments, decorated cookies, and even visited Santa.

By the numbers:

750 children were impacted

120 gift cards for teens were given away

550 pairs of shoes were distributed

2,520 toys were sent home to bless children

But numbers don't tell the whole story. Here's what a participant had to say:

"I really appreciate you guys and want to thank you all for the items I was able to get for my children. All the volunteers were so happy and willing to help! I left with a heart full of hope."

The goal of the event was for parents and children to maintain their dignity while experiencing the true meaning of Christmas. MFB Indiana is grateful to be a part of The Christmas Experience.

"This event perfectly dovetails with the mission of Midwest Food Bank," says Marcie Luhigo, Executive Director of MFB Indiana.
