New Operations Manager at MFB Normal has a heart to serve

You could say that Duane Whitlow has a heart for Midwest Food Bank.
In 2018, he first toured the Normal location of MFB and learned about the mission and work of MFB.

"I had the opportunity to visit with MFB founder David Kieser and learned firsthand how this great organization started and became what it is today," says Duane.

It didn't take long before he started to volunteer on distribution days. His then-fiancée, Cheryl, became a core volunteer. The couple were married at the Normal location in 2022 and asked guests to make donations to MFB in lieu of gifts (story here). They wanted to not only volunteer at MFB but also share their belief in MFB's mission on their important day.

"Duane is passionate about our mission, and it shows!" says Aimee Beam, Executive Director of MFB Normal. "He is very talented; we are blessed to have him on our team."

Duane has since retired from State Farm after 30 years in Information Technology and joined the staff at MFB as the Operations Manager in Bloomington-Normal. He started on August 21.

"My wife and I have volunteered ever since that first introduction to MFB in 2018," says Duane. "I am honored to begin serving this organization in a new capacity."

Outside of work, Duane mentors others in financial literacy and helps people with home improvement projects. He likes an active lifestyle serving others but also playing tennis, biking, and weight training. Duane and Cheryl have a rescue dog named Indy, whose name pays homage to Duane's Indiana roots.
