Midwest Food Bank of Arizona
In 2014, an Arizona couple found Midwest Food Bank through Charity Navigator and immediately felt compelled to get involved. They made two generous donations to the fight against hunger, each followed by a personal thank you phone call from founder David Kieser. It was then the idea of planting a Midwest Food Bank location in the Phoenix, Arizona region began to come to life. They asked David how they could start an organization like Midwest Food Bank in their area. David suggested that they join the national board and start their own Midwest Food Bank location. Today, the Arizona location strongly believes in thank you phone calls to its donors, and we have incorporated this practice into our everyday model.
By September 2016, we had a warehouse, and we were officially a new location of the Midwest Food Bank family! Many organizations, construction companies, and volunteers helped over the next several months to renovate the large warehouse space. The building was completed, and we had our first distribution load-out to approximately 30 agency partners by March 2017.
Midwest Food Bank of Arizona serves 200 agency partners, from our warehouse and a satellite distribution in Tucson. We continue to grow and help with the fight against hunger in the southwest region of the United States. We serve agency partners in multiple counties across Arizona and into parts of Southern California. As the demand from agency partners increases, we continue to look for ways to provide food for all.
Volunteering in Arizona
Midwest Food Bank of Arizona is continually looking for ways to attract volunteers. One way we do this is by hosting Glorious Saturdays. Once a month, the leadership team goes above and beyond for its volunteers, providing breakfast and lunch to 70-130 volunteers throughout the day. This enables us to express our appreciation and gives volunteers the opportunity for fellowship and friendships.
There is no age requirement to volunteer and kids have a wonderful experience when they can serve. Of course, children must be accompanied by a guardian, but all ages are welcome! You may have seen our volunteers distributing flowers to different neighborhoods in Arizona, reminding families and kids about the difference that they can make. Consider making your impact through volunteerism. One good decision can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment.
